MISSISSIPPI ALLIANCE OF YMCAs

MS Alliance of YMCAs

Everything the Y does is in service of making sure people and communities thrive. YMCAs in Mississippi have the scale and influence to address critical youth development, social, and health issues. YMCA programs provide a continuum of youth development learning and support from birth through adulthood.

Support Academic Advancement

Maintaining grade-level learning can be a challenge, especially during the summer when school is out. The Y combats learning loss with year-round programs that support what is being taught in school. YMCA programs give children the opportunity to learn while school is out, try new activities, and have fun. Parents know their kids are in a supervised and positive environment.

Develop Well-Being, Social-Emotional Learning and Character Development

Active minds need healthy bodies. The Y is a starting point for many kids to learn about becoming and staying active and developing healthy habits. It’s also a place to develop core character values. YMCA programs focus on building skills that last a lifetime.

Teach Aquatic Safety

Drowning is a leading cause of accidental death for children. To reduce water-related injury and fatality, the Y offers Safety Around Water, Learn to Swim, and swim lessons, which provide children with lifesaving skills and lifelong confidence to feel secure in and around water.

Serve and Strengthen Families

At the Y, families can participate in programs and services that enhance their health and well-being. Membership and program financial assistance scholarships allow families to participate fully even if they cannot pay for Y programs and services.

Strengthen Community Connections for Seniors

Y programs help prevent social isolation in older adults by allowing them to connect and engage in meaningful activities. Small lifestyle changes such as increasing physical activity, eating healthier and staying active socially can help older adults live better.
